NASA / JPL Cassini-Huygens Saturn Observation Campaign -
2002 Opportunity to Participate

We invite all interested parties, from professional astronomers to members of the public, to join with the Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn through the Saturn Observation Campaign. A section of NASA's Cassini-Huygens website will be dedicated to resources, event announcements, observation techniques and educational material related to planetary observation.
What: Partner with local organizations to drum up support and plan at least 3 events within a year.
Why: Members of the Saturn Observation Campaign will be able to participate in on-line trainings and programs conducted from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Team members will lead their communities to enjoy the magnificent view of the most beautiful planet of all. Team members' efforts will have a lasting impact in creating a connection between local communities and the exploration of the solar system.
When: Deadline is August 9, 2002. Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. No applications will be accepted after Oct. 1, 2002.

Saturn is in a favorable observation position several months every year.

Selection Criteria
Team members will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Experience in planetary observation
- Knowledge of the Cassini-Huygens mission and its science objectives
- Ability to partner with local resources at schools, municipal organizations, museums, planetariums and private industry
- Experience in planning events
- Member of -- or ability to partner with -- local astronomy organizations
Note to applicants:
- Amateur astronomy organizations may apply as a group but must submit a single point of contact
- Planetariums and museums should follow the same rule and submit a single point of contact
- Solar System Ambassadors and Solar System Educators should indicate their affiliation with those programs
Requirements:
- Host between 3 and 5 events through June 2003
- Report demographic data on attendees
- Year-round access to e-mail and the Internet
- Ability to download and print materials from the Internet
- Participate in on-line trainings
